"Excalibur, Answers for parents and teachers with ADD/ADhD concerns"
Excalibur is designed to cut through red tape, to set children free from the child-sized chemical straight jackets they have been placed in, and provide them with a way to be happy, healthy and successful in life.
This book looks at the causes and solutions, not symptoms and treatment. The book also introduces the reader to a new breed of Doctors applying integrative health techniques, and a new breed of Teachers applying right brained teaching as well as traditional left brained teaching in the classroom.
Comes with the audio CD "Answers for Parents and Teachers with ADD/ADhD Concerns".

Inventing a disorder that millions of children can be branded with has been applied to diagnoses like bi-polar and anxiety, among others, where, once again, life's difficulties and traumas are redefined as diseases. Pharmaceutical companies make billions selling dangerous drugs that should never enter a child's body; schools get more compliant children; insurance companies have treatments to push that are much cheaper than addressing a child's real situation; psychiatry has more patients to bill for. From stories to statistics, The ADHD Fraud puts the medication of children to rest.

"How to Reach and Teach ADD/ADHD Children"
This book made me wish that ALL reference books were written this clearly. Whether your looking to use this book to do a presentation in school, a teacher looking for help on teaching ADHD students, or have an ADHD child of your own, this is for you. It's a no non sense, straight forward guide to ADHD. It includes the causes, symptoms, treatment suggestions, and more. It even goes into specific strategies that teachers can use in the classroom.
The best part about it is that its broken down into detailed chapters and sections, making it easy for yout to find EXACTLY what your looking for. It's also written in VERY understandable terms. This is not a medical book, it's a for the average person. This book is an unbeleiveably well written guide to one of the most common learning disabilities of today. If your looking for a great reference, look no further, you've found the best.

Teaching Teens

This book is loaded with hands-on materials, excellent up-to-date information, and strategies to teach the compensatory skills to these students. Buy this book for your child's teacher and send one to the director of special services, too.

Sugars that heal
"Sugars that heal"
It sounds like a contradiction in terms, but it's the key to one of the most important breakthroughs in recent medical science. We've all been bombarded with warnings about the evils of consuming too much sugar. But, in fact, for our bodies to function properly, we need small amounts of eight essential sugars, only two of which--glucose and galactose--are commonly found in our limited, overprocessed diets. When all eight sugars are available, the health benefits can be breathtaking: Individuals regain their ability to fight disease, reactivate their immune systems, and are able to ward off infection. Based on cutting-edge research in the rapidly evolving science of glyconutrients, Sugars That Heal is an exciting new approach to health and disease prevention.

Nutritionally Incorrect

Nutritionally Incorrect

There are no current reviews available about this book from Amazon.com, however this book was referrence in two very good articles on the website of the Health Science Institute. Here is an excerpt. Dr. Spreen wrote: "It's amazing how many hyperactive children are chemically sensitive.
The trick is finding out what the sensitivity is. Food allergies are chemical sensitivities, and they
must be ruled out first. This starts by cutting out the historic offenders - milk (or other dairy), wheat, corn, soy, peanut, and adding to the list anything (ANYTHING) that the child craves (or just insists on eating everyday)."

Managing the Gift

Managing The Gift

I am a Person with ADD. I have Attention Deficit Disorder. I was diagnosed way back in the 3rd grade. I am 24 years old now and was on Ritalin all theway up to Concerta until just last year when I found out medication wasn't the answer for my Add thanks to Dr. Kevin Ross Emery and his wonderful Book Managing The Gift. It gives people wonderful insights on how Emotional Coffee Breaks, good diet, good sleeping patterns, and protocols developed by a medical intuition do really help those affected with ADD. Dr. Krvin Ross Emery also goes to schools with parents to talk to teachers about the child's IEP or Individualized Educational Plans and works with thefamily and the student to make sure the child gets the adequate and wonderful education the child deserves instead of labeling the child with a disability. ADD is a gift not a disability.
People stop putting the book down and open your brains to a new idea and new ways of thinking instead of being so close minded. Maybe Dr. Levy needs to take a closer look at his life and take some courses in ADD or early childhood education it might help him think better. Get a life Dr. Levy.

The Edison Trait
How to preserve a child's gift and improve parenting skills
Because I was an Edison Trait Child, I wasn't sure if I was reading the book for my son or for me! Many times I thought how much better our lives would have been if I had purchased this book earlier. Instead of struggling against the "strong will" of my son, this book provides parenting techniques, recognition skills and positive advice for Edison Trait kids and parents. Unfortunately, many school systems would rather have the child conform rather than take the time and effort necessary for Edison Trait children to learn most effectively. Indeed, the standardized "gifted" tests used in our school system are more geared to convergent thinking children, as is the program itself. The book needs to be followed up with a short assessment guide for parents and teachers. So often, the Edison Trait is confused with ADD as it was with my son. Rather than fight the perception, the assessment guide could be handed to teachers to help them understand the Edison Trait vs. ADD. Overall, the book provides incredible insights and is extremely well-written using colorful examples and humor.

Should I Medicate My Child?

Should I Medicate my Child?

Lawrence Diller, M.D., is a behavioral pediatrician and family therapist in Walnut Creek, California. He is the author of Running on Ritalin and writes frequently for Salon.com and other publications. In 2000 Diller testified before a U.S. Congressional committee investigating Ritalin use.
When Running on Ritalin was published in 1998 it touched off a firestorm about treating children with psychiatric drugs. Dr. Lawrence Diller established himself as the leading expert on the controversial use of stimulants for attention deficit disorder. Since then, parents, physicians, teachers and psychologists, have clamored for his expertise on psychological problems beyond ADD and on drugs beyond Ritalin. More and more parents are asking the simple question: Should I medicate my child?

Your Drug May Be Your Problem
"Your Drug May Be Your Problem" is an excellent book, your health depends on being informed.
You won't find out the side effects from these drugs from your psychiatrist, so you better learn about them yourself. I only took haldol for six months and I have side effects that haven't dissapeared yet. I'm just hoping eventually they will but not all people taking these drugs are fortunate in this regard as you will find reading this book. I believe people in the psychiatric profession belong in jail for brain damaging people against their will with the courts backing them up. Anyways the best defense for your self is to become informed by reading Dr. Breggin's books. If the entire world were informed I guarantee you these people would be all out business like they should be. I work in a vitamin store you may find some natural solutions for your problems there. Good luck and read this book!
Soar with your strength

Soar With Your Strengths

A cornerstone to a better future. Dr. Clifton's "Soar With Your Strengths" has helped me to identify why my carreer has not taken off to this point. I can see now that I have a tendency to focus on my weaknesses, while at the same time making the mistake of overlooking my strengths and ultimate potential.
This book challenges the absurdity of this common mistake and enlightens the reader to a strengths approach as it relates to carreer planning, interpersal relations, etc.
I would encourage anyone unhappy in their current carreer, anyone who wants success to come easy to them, or anyone who has a hand in managing the lifes, or carreers of others to read this book.
Lastly I would like to commend the author on his writting style. This book is truly a joy to read, and to the point.
Thank you Dr. Clifton for sharing this book with the world.

The Hyperactivity Hoax

The Hyperactivity Hoax

Is your son or daughter one of the millions of American children labeled as hyperactive or attention disordered? If so, The Hyperactivity Hoax will show you how to find real medical help for your child--not just an ADHD or ADD label and a pill.

"Dr. Walker's book is must reading for parents who want real solutions for their children--not just 'wastebasket' labels such as hyperactivity and ADD. I recommend it highly to parents -- and their doctors." -- Bernard Rimland, Ph.D., Director, Autism Research Institute.

Driven to Distraction

As seen on Oprah

Driven to Distraction

Excellent book for parents, teachers & ADD/ ADHD adults
As an educator, I've been dealing with kids with attention problems for many years, as has my wife who is a learning differences teacher (as a tutor and in private schools). When our daughter was in 2nd grade, she was diagnosed with ADD (over 15 years ago), so we began learning about this disorder firsthand. After attending a teacher's seminar on ADHD, I began suspecting that I might have it as well, but it wasn't until I read Hallowell's "Driven to Distraction" that I decided to seek help. Now, many years later, I can say that I'm glad I did.
As an elementary school librarian, this is the first book I recommend to teachers and parents, as well as to adults who suspect they may have an attention problem. It is easy to read, full of good information and the self-quizzes throughout the book are invaluable.

Taking Charge

Taking Charge of ADHD

Excellent discussion of ADHD as behavior inhibition
This is the best discussion of ADHD as a medical disorder that I have read. Dr. Barkley explains ADHD as a problem with behavior inhibition where the distractability, inpulsivity and hyperactivity are the results of the underlying problem. He then gives a thorough discussion of how parents can help themselves and their children with behavior modification techniques. He also discusses various medications that are used to treat ADHD.
The reason that I do not give this book 5 stars is that it is not a complete picture of ADHD. The medical disorder model is not the only way, and not neccesarily the best way to view this condition. I can only think of one paragraph in the whole book that mentions positive traits which are associated with ADHD. You really need to read a wider range of books to get a more complete picture.
Hallowell and Ratey's "Driven to Distraction" gives a wonderful look at the many different ways that ADD can affect people and some idea of what it feels like from the inside. Thom Hartmann's "Attention Deficit Disorder: A Different Perspective" views ADHD as a personality trait with distinct advantages under the right circumstances rather than a disorder. These books will help expand Dr Barkley's important viewpoint.

Life through the Eyes of an Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Child

"With terror in my heart, I can still remember sitting in emotional and almost physical pain at Palm Elementary School in Beaumont, California. It was fourth grade, and what was going on in the classroom was beyond my attention. That's because my mind had escaped. Looking out the window was my only escape from the endless monotony of the classroom.

Being "jerked back" when the teacher called on me, was overwhelming and nauseating. I felt I had missed so much while being "spaced out" that the demands seemed insurmountable. I had no clue where to begin. Since I felt little hope of being rewarded for my feeble efforts, my biggest desire was to escape on another mental vacation. That is exactly what I did. My mind traveled out the window again -- even though I dimly knew that I was digging myself into a deeper hole. As self-defeating as this strategy was, it was my only defense."My understanding of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is deeply rooted in my own experience. I was an ADHD child. I am now a Ph.D. Clinical Psychologist. Parents, there is hope.
